Allman Brothers expand At Fillmore East into new box set

The Allman Brothers Band will release “The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings”, an expanded box set version of their classic 1971 live album, “At Fillmore East”, on July 29.

The 6-disc package will include 15 previously unreleased performances, featuring four shows in March, and the band’s performance on June 27, 1971 that closed the legendary New York venue.

"That weekend in March of '71, when we recorded At Fillmore East, most of the time it clicked," says drummer Butch Trucks. "We were finally starting to catch up with what we were listening to. We had lived together. . . we got in trouble together; we all just moved as a unit. And then, when we got onstage to play, that's what it was all about – and it just happened to all come together that weekend."

Considered by some critics as one of the greatest live albums ever made, the original “At Fillmore East” release was selected for preservation in the US Library of Congress, an honor reserved for recordings deemed as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important" by the National Recording Registry.

The Allman Brothers Band recently announced their final live shows after 45 years as a group.

The band have rescheduled dates for four shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre that were postponed in March – they perform on October 21, 22, 24 and 25. Tickets purchased for those sold-out shows (originally set for March 25, 26, 28 & 29) will be honored on these dates for the corresponding days.

Fans unable to attend the rescheduled shows can return tickets for a refund at the point of purchase prior to August 1.

The Allman Brothers also announced two additional shows at the Beacon, which will mark the end of their career as a touring band.

The group will perform at the Beacon on October 27 and 28, a venue the band has played exactly 232 times since their annual tradition began there in 1989.
