VIDEO: Foo Fighters preview Sonic Highways

The Foo Fighters are sharing a preview of their forthcoming album and HBO series, “Sonic Highways.”

Premiering Friday, October 17 at 11 p.m., the HBO series will see the Foo Fighters visit, and record music at, some of the world's most iconic recording studios in 8 US cities – Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington, DC.

"Basically, the process is we come to a city and we spend a week and we start recording an instrumental, because I interview all of these different musicians from that city," explains Dave Grohl, who then turns parts of those conversations into lyrics. “I talk about the regional relevance of the music from that city, the cultural
influence, that 'made-for-the-sound' of the music. There's no way that you can tell the history of a city's music in one hour, so we have to do it in a way that relates to the band and goes from point A to point B and becomes a song."

The band’s 8th album, “Sonic Highways”, will be released worldwide November 10.

The group will issue the project’s lead single, "Something From Nothing", on Thursday, October 16.

The Foo Fighters will promote both projects with a week-long residency on The Late Show with David Letterman.

The band will be joined by special guests when they perform on the CBS late-night program the week of Monday, October 13.
