VIDEO: Journey debut new touring drummer at the Hollywood Bowl

Journey debuted new touring drummer Omar Hakim during their performance on the opening night of the 2015 season at the Hollywood Bowl on June 20.

Hakim was brought in for the group’s summer tour of North America following the arrest of longtime member Deen Castronovo on domestic violence charges in Oregon on June 14.

It’s the second domestic violence incident involving Castronovo in recent years: he was also arrested in Oregon in 2012 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

At the Hollywood Bowl show, Journey played a full set with the Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Thomas Wilkins, marking the group's first-ever performance with an orchestra.

Proceeds from the season-opening event benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic and its education and community programs, which reach more than 120,000 children, teachers and adults every year.

“We thank you Omar,” posted the band. “You did an amazing job tonight. Looking forward to all the gigs coming up.”
