AUDIO: David Gilmour premieres new single Today

David Gilmour is premiering “Today”, the latest single from his forthcoming album, “Rattle That Lock.”

“’Today’ was one of the ones that Phil [Manzanera] put together from two or three pieces of music of mine that I had sort of ignored,” says Gilmour. “He’s very good at finding them and saying, ‘that’s great, you should it … and how about using it with that piece and that piece.’ So he mocked that one up. It’s a gift.”

“Today” follows the title track and “5 AM” as the third tune previewed from the record, which was recorded at various places, including Gilmour’s Astoria houseboat studio and in Hove, Sussex, UK.

Due September 18, the 10-track set delivers five tunes with lyrics by the Pink Floyd guitarist’s wife, author Polly Samson, and two by Gilmour alongside three instrumentals.

Gilmour performed a warm-up show for his upcoming world tour in support of “Rattle That Lock” in Brighton, UK on September 5.

His first full live date in almost a decade saw the guitarist perform a two-set evening at the 4,500 capacity Brighton Centre, mixing material from the new project alongside solo and Pink Floyd tunes.

Gilmour will officially launch “Rattle That Lock” with a sold-out 11-date European tour, with shows starting in Croatia on September 12.
