The Who will release an expanded 5-CD Super Deluxe Box Set of their 1965 debut album, “My Generation”, on November 18.
The extensive 79-track package features unreleased songs, demos, mixes, remasters, new notes from guitarist Pete Townshend, an 80-page book, rare memorabilia and more.
Mono and new stereo mixes of both the original album and its bonus tracks are delivered alongside a fifth disc of demos, included three unreleased songs discovered by Townshend last year that the other members of The Who hadn’t even heard: “The Girls I Could Have Had”, “As Children We Grew” and “My Own Love.”
“Gathering these demos for this collection has been enjoyable; it’s wonderful for me to have these tapes made fifty-two years ago to listen to,” says Townshend. “I hope you enjoy them. They have a naiveté and innocence, a simplicity and directness, and an ingenuousness that reveals me as a young man struggling to keep up with the more mature and developed men around me. What an incredible group of strong, talented, young and engaging men they were!”
Released in the band’s native UK in December 1966 and worldwide in April of the following year, “My Generation” was launched with the legendary and influential title track as its lead single reaching No. 2 at home at No. 78 on the US charts on its way to Gold status in the UK.
A full tracklist for the the 5-CD SuperDeluxe box set can be found below; “My Generation” will also be issued as a 3-LP and 2-LP editions on February 10, 2017.
The Who performed at the Desert Tip festival in Indio, CA last weekend, played a show in Mexico City on October 12 and will return for the classic rock festival’s second weekend with a set on October 16.
Townshend and Roger Daltrey will continue their 4-year farewell tour with a series of dates in the UK next spring.
