Metallica have launched a new weekly streaming concert series during the global health crisis.
Billed as “Metallica Mondays”, the project will see the band premiere full concert footage every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on the their YouTube and Facebook feeds.
“While we’re all doing our part and staying home, we find ourselves missing live music, so how about we dive back into a few of our favorite shows at a socially responsible distance?”, says Metallica. “Not to sound too cheesy, but now more than ever, we’re in this together, and staying connected is how we’ll get through it. With that in mind, we’re bringing a series of Live Metallica shows right to your couch!”
The group debuted the series with video of their June 8, 2019 show at the iconic Slane Castle in Meath, Ireland, where Metallica mixed tracks from their catalog over the course of a 2.5 hour concert.
The band’s first performance at the legendary venue – which also marked their first appearance in the area in a decade – saw them play before 75,000 fans and joined by a lineup that included Ghost, Stiff Little Fingers, Bokassa and Fangclub.
“Slane Castle has been rocked… and what an unbelievable vibe!,” posted drummer Lars Ulrich after the show. “As incredible as we were told to expect... the second we stepped on stage and took it all in – the Irish fans, the castle, the bowl-like setting – we knew this was other worldly.
“What a privilege and an honour to play this legendary venue. Thank you Lord Henry for having us, and thanks to everyone who came from near and far! All 75,000 of ya. Wow! Let’s not wait another 10 years Ireland.”
Metallica revealed this week that the pandemic has forced them to postpone an upcoming South American tour with Greta Van Fleet, which will be rescheduled to later in the year.
