Metallica announce new box set on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich revealed the artwork for a new, forthcoming box set by the band during a June 10 appearance on ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Ulrich was on hand during the host’s weekly salute to health care workers segment as the late night program pays tribute to frontline workers during the pandemic; this time, the episode featured Metallica fan Tracey Bednar, a pediatric ICU nurse from Long Island, NY.

“As a father of three, I can’t thank you enough for what you do," Ulrich told Bednar. "I’ve been sitting here listening in for the last couple of minutes. All of us out here in San Francisco, my family and everywhere are so grateful for what you do. And thank-you for having Metallica be a part of your life and your ride home.”

The drummer offered the nurse VIP tickets to the band’s next show in her area before displaying a bonus gift.

"This is our next release called S&M2, which is coming up in August," explained Ulrich while holding up cover art for the project. "You will have the first signed copy of this special box set from me and the fellas coming your way shortly."

“S&M2” saw Metallica perform with the San Francisco Symphony last September at the opening of the city’s Chase Center while also marking the 20th Anniversary of the pairing’s 1999 live performance recording “S&M.”

Metallica were joined by the San Francisco Symphony on September 6 and September 8 to deliver an identical 20-song setlist both nights on a circular, revolving stage in the center of the arena floor, with the group surrounded by 75 members of the Symphony and conductor Edwin Outwater.

More details about the “S&M2” project are expected to be announced soon.
