Metallica perform national anthem for San Francisco Giants game

Metallica guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett performed a virtual video version of the US national anthem prior to the September 23 home game by Major League Baseball’s San Francisco Giants.

The pair delivered The Star-Spangled Banner from the band’s headquarters in the area, while the pre-game festivities also saw bassist Robert Trujillo throw out the virtual first pitch via video.

The Giants game against the Colorado Rockies would have been the team’s eighth annual Metallica Day, an annual event that sees the band involved throughout the day.

Metallica’s new live album, “S&M2”, recently debuted in the US Top 5.

The project, which presents material from the group’s two shows last fall with the San Francisco Symphony as the pair officially opened the new Chase Center, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4.
