Ghost score Grammy nomination for cover of Iron Maiden classic

Ghost have scored a 2024 Grammy Award nomination for their cover of the 1980 Iron Maiden classic, “Phantom Of The Opera.”

The Swedish rockers released the iconic metal tune as part of their covers EP “Phantomime.”

Originally issued as part of Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut album, the 2023 version sees Ghost update the song for the five-track project alongside tunes recorded by Genesis, Tina Turner, The Stranglers and Television.

Ghost’s version has been nominated in the Best Metal Performance category alongside tracks by Disturbed (“Bad Man”), Metallica (“72 Seasons”), Slipknot (“Hive Mind”), and Spiritbox (“Jaded”).

The 66th Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles; it will air live at 8:00 PM ET on the CBS Television Network and will stream on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs).

Ghost previously won a Best Metal Performance Grammy in 2016 for "Cirice", a track from the “Meliora” album; their latest full studio release is 2022’s “Impera.”
