To promote Ace Frehley’s upcoming post-game concert in Tampa Bay on March 11, the NHL team hung banners around the arena, but there was a big problem: the banner featured an image of current KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer in full Ace makeup, something Ace hasn’t worn in many years.
KISS fans got upset at the apparent slight to Frehley, but after two weeks, the team is now on it.
"We regret the mistake, and proper banners will be in place soon," Lightning spokesman Bill Wickett told the St. Petersburg Times.
The error happened when the in-house creative services department pulled a photo from a past Kiss concert without verifying it was of Frehley, Wickett said. They hung the banners Feb. 12 as part of a new "All In" campaign, not knowing Frehley was no longer with the band.
