VIDEO: Scott Weiland delivers covers set in NYC

Scott Weiland was in New York this week for a scheduled book-signing to launch his new autobiography, “Not Dead & Not For Sale.”

Weiland appeared at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square on Tuesday, which was followed by a concert at the Gramercy Theater.

Scott reportedly showed up to the book signing/interview session about 45 minutes late due to the fact that he was "soundchecking at the Gramercy." Scott and Matt Pinfield did an interview about the book and Scott signed copies for everyone in attendance.

According to the Wall Street Journal, things went downhill following the in-store.

As part of a tightly-scheduled evening, Weiland was due to start his Gramercy gig at 10p; at 11:30p, an hour and a half past curtain time, the 43-year-old musician appeared wearing the same shirt and tie from the book signing. Scott reportedly belted out a round of what seemed to be excuses; he was working on three hours of sleep, he had just come from a book signing, the earlier sound check was tumultuous, he’s performing new songs with a band that only rehearsed together for two days.

The WSJ reports the show’s sound was overproduced, heavy with reverb and flat, and that Weiland looked, and sounded, exhausted – and the crowd didn’t exactly lift him up. They booed and shouted as he told immensely personal tales in a manner much like the book.

With only two days of rehearsals, Weiland and his band played a set that consisted entirely of covers:

01. [Jam]
02. Waiting for a Superman (Flaming Lips cover)
03. Into Your Arms (Lemonheads cover)
04. But Not Tonight (Depeche Mode cover)
05. I Am the Resurrection (Stone Roses cover)
06. Let Down (Radiohead cover)
07. Jean Genie (David Bowie cover)
08. Dead Flowers (The Rolling Stones cover)
09. Roadhouse Blues (The Doors cover)
10. Fame (David Bowie cover)
11. Frances Farmer Will Get Her Revenge On Seattle (Nirvana cover)

Encore:

12. Unglued (Stone Temple Pilots cover)

Despite the poor review, Weiland and crew will be doing it all over again next week, as Scott does an in-store signing at Hollywood’s Book Soup (see below) on Tuesday, followed by a sold-out show at the Viper Room.
