Green Day working on new songs

Good news for Green Day fans: the band is working on new material.

On Tuesday, Billie Joe Armstrong updated fans via Twitter on what’s up in Green Day’s world these days.

“OK. Here's the scoop,” Armstrong wrote. “Green Day has been jamming new songs everyday. There’s a ton of new songs. The direction is fresh and high energy. Feels great.”

“I don’t want to give away too much but just know that me, Mike [Dirnt, bassist], Tre [Cool, drummer] and Jason [White, touring guitarist] are collaborating and having the best time playing music.

It’s far too early for any official word on a new album, but it is great to hear the band is actively pursuing new material. Green Day’s next studio record would be the follow-up to 2009’s “21st Century Breakdown”; earlier this year, they released a live album, “Awesome as F**k.”
