Green Day was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 1, and video of the event is streaming online.
The California band was recognized in the field of recording with the 2,810th star on the famous strip, which can be found at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard adjacent to Amoeba Music.
Former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield served as emcee for the event, which also included appearances by actor/producer Ryan Reynolds, producer Rob Cavallo, and Flavor Flav.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to welcome Green Day’s Billlie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame Producer. “Green Day’s music has not only inspired generations but also served as the soundtrack to our lives. Honoring them with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a token of our appreciation for their incredible contributions to the world of music.”
"Where do I start? 1987? 1982? Today was like a fever dream,” shared Billie Joe Armstrong online after the event. “To see a lot of our friends and family all together to celebrate the walk of fame was unreal and beautiful. I remember playing Rajis in 1992. Never in my wildest fever dreams did I ever imagine this. Walking down the blvd. Gazing at the stars of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin and so many more. Never once did I think this would be possible for me Mike and Tre.
"Mike brought tears to my eyes when he mentioned my mom Ollie,” he added. “Jamming at my house in Rodeo California while she was making spaghetti. Last but not least our extended family and idiot nation. I’m always reluctant to use the word “fans” because you’ve all been on this journey with us for generations. In the immortal words of Shirley and Lee - “Let the good times roll”!"
Armstrong was still raving about the experience a day later, posting: “WHAT. A. DAY. Still can’t believe we’ve got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!! Absolute dream come true. Huge thanks to Matt Pinfield, Rob Cavallo, Ryan Reynolds and the city of Los Angeles for making yesterday truly special ⭐ But the biggest thank you goes out to every single one of YOU who showed up, keep showing up, and have been with us through it all. You’re the reason we get to keep doing what we love, and we can’t wait to continue doing it FOREVER !!!"

“'One Eyed Bastard' started off as just a riff I had, a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff,” explains Billie Joe Armstrong. “Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life. That's the thing about nostalgia – sometimes you think, 'That was an awful time.' Everybody's got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts – it could be like revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting."

“‘Dilemma’ was one of those songs that was kind of easy to write because it was so personal to me,” adds Billie Joe Armstrong. “We’ve seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness. This song is all about the pain that comes from those experiences.”
The group will deliver the live debut of “Dilemma” during a December 31 appearance on ABC-TV’s Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
