The Cult working on new album with Bob Rock

The Cult report that they are in the studio, with producer Bob Rock, putting the finishing touches on material for their new album.

Pictured above is guitarist Billy Duffy in studio with Rock.

The band’s ninth release is tentatively due in early 2012 via Cooking Vinyl Records.

Interesting to hear The Cult are working with Rock again, who produced the band’s 1989 effort, “Sonic Temple,” and their 1994 self-titled release.

Something has obviously changed in the band’s plan since spring, when they announced that they were in the studio with producer Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, Masters Of Reality) at the controls, with an early fall release expected.

Must be the new deal with Cooking Vinyl.

Bassist Chris Wyse shared some info in a recent interview with ViperRoom.com.

"The new The Cult deal is with Cooking Vinyl. We're in good company with The Prodigy and Marilyn Manson. The record is nearly done; Ian [Astbury] is probably doing vocals right now. It is due out April 2012!! This record is kind of a Zep/Stooges mix of energy, and I believe showcases a new level of depth for The Cult."
