The Cult has announced that the band will take an extended hiatus from touring.
"Mother Nature has a cycle of change and evolution that is inevitable," shared Ian Astbury and Billy Duffyin a statement to fans. "The moon's phases change, tides rise and fall. Change is necessary for creation and rebirth. It is with this in mind that, following the remaining dates on our current North American The Cult/Death Cult 8525 Tour, we have decided to step away from touring for an undetermined amount of time.
"We have toured extensively over the last few years and we shall now shift our focus to writing, recording new music, and exploring other projects that shall be revealed over time. It is a time for us to turn inward to recharge our spiritual batteries. When we return to the stage, it shall be with an even stronger fire and energy that we will share with all of you. Ours is a communal bond, and it will not be broken, simply paused.
"Until then," the pair continues, "we have five remaining shows on this current tour, culminating at The Shrine in Los Angeles on Oct 30. Please join us for what has been an incredible celebration of 40 years of The Cult and Death Cult. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support. It keeps us alive."
"It's been a beautiful three years celebrating our music with The Cult family around the world," adds Duffy. "Now it's time to go home and spend time with our own families, and create some new music."
"My deepest gratitude to all who attended and immersed themselves in our world," says Astbury. "I am deeply grateful to be connected to our Cult family as we ready ourselves for our final five shows for some time, and we take the opportunity to dive deeper into our next creative adventures. More shall be revealed. Blessings to you all."

The Cult has announced dates for a fall tour of North America.
Singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy will revisit their origins and history for the series, which the band says is “a communal gathering of the tribes featuring sets from Death Cult and The Cult. If not now, then when?”
Originally a member of the UK band Southern Death Cult that formed in 1981, Astbury and the group released a single in 1982 and toured before the rocker disbanded the outfit in 1983.
That same year, the singer teamed up with Duffy to form the post-punk goth outfit Death Cult; the band released two 12-inches records, one being the “Death Cult” EP, which were subsequently combined and released as a CD.
Death Cult became The Cult in 1984, releasing their album debut, “Dreamtime”, that same year and going on to experience a career that has seen the release of 11 full-length albums, as well as numerous international and US gold and platinum certifications.
Set to open on October 9 in Niagara Fall, ON, presales are underway with general public tickets on sale Friday, July 18 at 10 AM local time.

To mark the milestone anniversary of their musical partnership, Astbury and Duffy will highlight their work from the 1980s with a sole US performance on October 23 at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles and a two-week UK tour in November.
The shows, while centered around Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, will deliver a setlist that spans the three phases of the band – from Southern Death Cult to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: 1984’s “Dreamtime” and 1985’s “Love.”

The Cult have postponed their 2021 tour plans due to the ongoing pandemic.
The group last performed dates on their Sonic Temple 30th anniversary tour in late 2019; when the pandemic shut down many things, including the live music industry, The Cult rescheduled their 2020 shows to this year .. and now they’re being moved one more time.
"The Cult will regretfully be postponing all upcoming shows for the rest of the year due to the ongoing flux in the world while we continue to adjust to the 'new normal'," announced the band on social media. "Our shows are a communal space where we share the celebration of live music. It is apparent that the optimism we shared in the performing of live shows for 2021 was premature. We refuse to put a single fan, whom we love and respect, in harm’s way.
"Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all in the Spring of 2022."
Last summer, The Cult shared an update on the follow-up album their 2016 album, “Hidden City.”
"In the studio with producer @tomdalgety working on the new Cult songs,” posted guitarist Billy Duffy on Instagram. “It's great to be back at the legendary Rockfield Studios where we recorded 'Dreamtime' way back in the day…"
The project will be the band’s eleventh studio record and first with Black Hill Records, a newly-launched rock-focused label affiliated with independent publisher Round Hill Music.

"They say rock is dead when in fact it is very much alive," Round Hill co-founder and CEO Josh Gruss said in a launch announcement in June. "Rock prevails in touring, album sales, streaming in most countries and boasts extremely devoted fans who provide steady support to their favorite artists. That’s the start of a good recipe. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love hard rock and metal, so the launch of Black Hill is a very special and proud moment."
The Cult’s album debut, 1984’s “Dreamtime”, was recorded at the Welsh studio; the set – which included the lead single, “Spiritwalker” – reached No. 21 in the UK charts upon its original release.
The Cult have announced a new series of fall US dates as part of their Sonic Temple 30th anniversary tour.
Propelled by the breakthrough success of 1987’s “Electric” and introduced by the lead single, “Fire Woman”, the band’s fourth studio set delivered their only US Top 10 record, thanks to classic tracks and fan favorites like "Edie (Ciao Baby)," "Sweet Soul Sister" and "Sun King."
The album catapulted The Cult into rock’s mainstream and remains their most commercially successful release; reaching No. 10 on the Billboard 200, it has sold over 1.5 million copies in the US alone.
"I'd like fans to not only allow themselves a little indulgence into maybe simpler happier times of the late '80s for a few hours at a 'ST19' show,” says guitarist Billy Duffy, “but also be happy that the music is now really their possession, not ours, and to do with it what they will."
The week-long, seven show run of US east coast cities – which will open in Montclair, NJ on December 6 – will see the band joined by Spirit Animal; tickets for the new dates will go on sale Friday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. (local time).

The Cult will release a series of expanded 30th anniversary reissues of their 1989 album, “Sonic Temple”, on September 13.
“Sonic Temple 30” will be issued in multiple configurations, including as a deluxe box set, a 5-CD set, double LP and digital.
The box set contains three pieces of vinyl and a cassette, plus tour memorabilia and ephemera (replica of original laminate, backstage pass, original press releases, label copy and more). It's numbered and limited to 3000 pieces worldwide and contains 40 tracks, four of which were previously unreleased. LP1+2 contains the album as originally released, while LP3 contains “Live At Wembley”, recorded by the BBC, and the included cassette contains limited-release demos; four of the live tracks are also previously-unreleased.
The five-CD set contains 53 tracks (including 6 previously-unreleased) with the original album on disc 1, alternate edits, mixes, extended versions and acoustic versions on disc 2, limited-release demos on discs 3 and 4 and "Live At Wembley" on disc 5. Six of the live tracks are previously-unreleased.
The double LP is a re-vamped reissue of the original album. Now cut onto two pieces of black vinyl, the audio is improved and contains 16 tracks total, which comprise the original album plus six B-sides; “Sonic Temple" has been out of print on vinyl for over 20 years.
The Digital version will replicate the CD-set but excludes the original album for a total of 43 tracks.
"We wanted to retain our core DNA as we went deeper into psych and hard rock influences,” explains singer Ian Astbury. “It was a complete immersion for me into art, film, music, poetry and literature, weaving those influences into what was to become Sonic Temple. The band was becoming more popular. We were in uncharted waters. Most of the bands we had come up with had split up or fallen off. We were accelerating. There was no real time to breathe. We were forming new allegiances and breaking the glass ceiling of 'the indie outsider."
The Cult will support the 30th anniversary reissue series with a 10-show tour of the UK this fall, with dates starting October 15 in Nottingham; tickets will go on sale Friday, July 5 at 10.00am local time.
