Gary Moore: possible cause of death linked to heavy drinking
As we reported Sunday, sad news from the music world as guitarist Gary Moore was found dead in his hotel room in Spain.
Details on the events surrounding the scene are slowly emerging, as tributes by former Thin Lizzy bandmates, fellow musicians and fans poured in from all over the globe.
No official cause of death has been released, and I suspect probably won’t be, pending the results of an autopsy.
However, UK tabloid The Sun is reporting that Moore died on holiday as a result of choking on his vomit after drinking champagne and brandy.
The Sun reports the 58-year-old ex-Thin Lizzy star was discovered just before 4am by his girlfriend, unconscious in their Spanish hotel room.
Medics found him lying lifeless on his back wearing just his underpants. An ambulance source said: "We believe the deceased had been drinking heavily."
A source at The Kempinski hotel on Spain's Costa del Sol - where suites cost up to £3,500 a night - said: "There were definite signs of alcohol in the room. His girlfriend was very distraught, in floods of tears."
Moore died hours after checking into the Kempinski Hotel at Estepona with his girlfriend, to begin a six-day holiday.
A hotel source told the Sun: "They were going to eat at the restaurant but it was closed so they had a sandwich at the bar with a bottle of champagne. They went for a stroll then back to the bar where Gary had brandies. He seemed fine when he left around 11pm."
