AUDIO: Metallica covers Deep Purple for tribute album

Metallica are one of the acts featured on the forthcoming Deep Purple project, "Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head."

Due September 25, the compilation CD presents re-interpretations of Deep Purple’s landmark 1972 album with songs recorded by Iron Maiden, Chickenfoot, Black Label Society and more.

Metallica covers "When A Blind Man Cries," a song recorded during the 1971 sessions. The tune did not appear on the album’s original release, but was issued as the B-side to the single, "Never Before.” “Blind Man” was eventually included on the 25th Anniversary 2CD edition of “Machine Head.”

Deep Purple’s most successful record, “Machine Head” reached number 1 in the UK and stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks; it reached number 7 in the United States, remaining on the Billboard 200 for 118 weeks.
