Former Megadeth bassist to compete on The Amazing Race

Veteran rock bassist James Lomenzo is set to compete in the new season of "The Amazing Race."

Lomenzo, 53 (pictured above on the left), will compete with teammate Mark "Abba" Abbattista, 45, a friend and entertainment lawyer (pictured above on the right).

Lomenzo has recorded and/or toured as a member of several high-profile acts, including White Lion, Slash’s Snakepit, David Lee Roth, Black Label Society and Megadeth.

On Wednesday, CBS announced the 11 teams that will make up the cast for Season 21 of the reality series; read up on James and Mark here.

"The Amazing Race" is an eight-time Emmy Award-winning reality series hosted by Emmy Award-nominated host Phil Keoghan, which pits 11 teams, each comprised of two members, against each other on a trek around the world for approximately 25 days. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.

There’s a new twist this fall regarding the prize money: while it remains at $1 million, if the team which wins the first leg end up as victors of the entire competition, they will double the prize and receive $2 million.

Season 21 of The Amazing Race premieres Sunday, September 30 at 8 p.m. EST
