Slash to help launch Bob Irwin Wildlife Conservation Foundation

Slash is kicking off his Australian tour on Thursday in Brisbane, but the day before that, the noted reptile fan will be in the city to help friend Bob Irwin launch his Wildlife Conservation Foundation.

Bob is the father of the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin.

The Herald Sun reports the guitarist will join Irwin for the project’s launch on Wednesday.

The Foundation will be an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by tax-deductible donations that will focus on education, lobbying and supporting other community groups involved in wildlife conservation.

It will offer scholarships to encourage young people to pursue careers in the sector, and will be run by a dedicated committee.

Slash has long been a vocal supporter of reptiles; last year, he was honored by the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association with the inaugural Tom F. Mankiewicz Leadership Award, which recognizes his longtime contributions to establishing environmental welfare programs.

Slash is also a trustee on GLAZA's board and has supported the L.A. Zoo and zoos around the world.
