Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones made a rare appearance at a London media event on Friday to promote the band’s forthcoming live set, “Celebration Day.”
Directed by Dick Carruthers, the package captures the band’s December 2007 reunion at London’s 02 Arena, which saw the three founding members joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
The Guardian reports Plant, Page and Jones were cagey when asked if they might ever reunite again and, when asked about the possibility of more gigs, simply avoided the subject rather than issue a flat denial.
"Let me ask you a question," said Page when the band were first asked if they might play together again. "Have you seen the film? Did you enjoy it? Then we've done our job, haven't we?" When a second questioner asked if Zeppelin would "do it again", singer Robert Plant replied: "With you?"
Page, Plant and Jones raved about the work of Jason Bonham at the show. "Jason was absolutely monumental in his performance," said Page. "Nobody else could have done it."
"We played with him before, at his wedding," Plant added. "But sadly he decided to go to bed at his wedding reception. Because I was a friend of the family from way back, I was the one who had to go to his room and get him out of bed."
Plant responded to a question about whether there were many overdubs on the film by describing it as "a cheek", before admitting the vocals at the end of "Kashmir" had to be edited "because I was running out of steam". Page said overdubs had been kept to a minimum.
Plant said he celebrated after the show by visiting the Marathon kebab restaurant in Camden Town, London, a favorite of many generations of rock musicians.
The film of “Celebration Day” will see a worldwide theatrical release on 1,500 screens in over 40 territories on October 17. The theatrical screenings will follow premieres in London, Los Angeles, New York, and other major cities.
“Celebration Day” will then be available in multiple video and audio formats on November 19; specific product details will be announced soon.
