Rush win Album Of The Year at debut Progressive Music Awards

Rush’s “Clockwork Angels” was named Album Of The Year at the inaugural Progressive Music Awards in London Wednesday night.

The event, created by Prog Magazine, honors the work of progressive music artists.

“These awards have been a long time coming,” says Prog Editor Jerry Ewing. “But certainly when one considers the enormous amount of success that progressive artists have garnered over the past four decades, and perhaps more importantly the enjoyment they have given millions of fans over the years, it’s only right we give something back to the musicians themselves And given the buoyancy of the genre in recent years, we felt that the time was certainly right.”

Prog magazine readers selected Rush for the Album honor over new projects by Yes, Anathema, Storm Corrosion, Opeth, Nightwish and It Bites in one of five categories available for public voting - others included New Blood, Live Event, Anthem and Grand Design.

“Clockwork Angels” is Rush’s 20th studio album; the Canadian rockers kick off their world tour in support of the project this Friday in Manchester, NH.

The North American leg runs to December 2 when it wraps in Houston, following which the band heads to Europe to begin a series of dates in May.
