PHOTO: Eddie Van Halen attends Smashing Pumpkins show in L.A.

Eddie Van Halen continues to recuperate following surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis that will have him sidelined for the remainder of the year.

Eddie’s health issue, which flared up following the end of the first leg of the band’s tour, caused the postponement and eventual cancellation of a series of Van Halen concert dates across North America this summer, and the postponement of a series of dates in Japan that were scheduled for November.

The first photos of Eddie in public since his surgery was at an October 3rd Tremonti show in Kansas City so that he could check out his son, Wolfgang, who is filling in on bass for the band during the VH hiatus. See the pictures here.

On Sunday, Eddie attended the Smashing Pumpkins show at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.

The guitar icon posted a backstage photo of himself with Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
