Jack White has been named Record Store Day 2013 Ambassador.
Set for April 20, the annual event is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.
This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on.
White is not only an artist, but as head of Third Man Records, a store owner himself.
The guitarist has put together a informative video on how records are made, as well as written an insightful and articulate letter, explaining his involvement in RSD 2013.
“As Record Store Day Ambassador of 2013,” explains White, “I’m proud to help in any way I can to invigorate whoever will listen with the idea that there is beauty and romance in the act of visiting a record shop and getting turned onto something new that could change the way they look at the world, other people, art, and ultimately, themselves.”
