Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially fired singer Scott Weiland.
The band posted the news on Wednesday, providing no further information about their actions at this time.
The official word comes three months after Slash leaked the news about Scott’s status during an interview with Minneapolis/St. Paul radio station 93X (in December, as reported by hennemusic here); the guitarist was asked about Weiland's comments that he was "completely open" to reuniting with Velvet Revolver.
"That's because he got fired from STP," said Slash, adding, "I think, all things considered, because these things always catch me by surprise, too, because I only find out about it through the media. I'm on the road in another country and I start hearing all this stuff, so I inquire within, and that's what I was told."
The two rockers were previously together in Velvet Revolver, with Weiland splitting VR in 2008 to reunite with STP.
Weiland is getting ready to launch a solo tour where he will perform songs from the first two STP albums, 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple."
Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts will kick off the 20-city trek, dubbed the "Purple At The Core Tour", on March 1 in Flint, Michigan.
