VIDEO: Metallica promotes Through The Never 3D film at Cannes Film Festival

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich was on hand at the Cannes Film Festival to promote, screen and attempt to secure international distribution for the band’s upcoming 3D movie, “Through The Never.”

The film tells the story of a band crew member (played by Dane DeHaan) who is sent out on a mission during Metallica's live set in front of a sold-out arena; while on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

“Concert films have a tendency to be filmed from the outside looking [at the band],” explains Ulrich. “We felt it would be much more interesting if we filmed from the inside looking out. We always play 360, so the primary concert element is kind of up on stage filming out.”

Due for release this fall, the project has been described by one of its actors as "a concert movie meets 'The Wall' meets Metallica."

“Through the Never” will debut in IMAX theatres across North America for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27.

The film will then expand into additional theatres on October 4.
