VIDEO: Black Sabbath discuss writing God Is Dead

Black Sabbath have just released their new album, “13.”

Produced by Rick Rubin, the project is the first by the band with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978’s “Never Say Die.”

Guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler sat down with NME TV to discuss the writing of the album’s lead track, “God Is Dead?”

“Ozzy came out with the title,” explain Geezer, the group's lyricist. “I was going ‘you can’t sing that.’ He wanted to keep it in, so I wrote the rest of the words around that. It’s about a religious fanatic, somebody that’s been told that God is dead and he wants to prove that God is alive and well. That’s what the song is about.”

Black Sabbath released the video for “God Is Dead?” this past week; it was directed by controversial filmmaker and social activist Peter Joseph, who is best known for his counter-culture/social revolution film series under the banner title of "Zeitgeist", meaning the "general intellectual, moral and cultural climate of an era."

Music industry sources suggest Black Sabbath are headed for their first US No. 1 album with “13.”

The record is on track to sell over 120,000 copies by the end of the week (Sunday, June 16).

The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, June 19.
