Pink Floyd release new version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Pink Floyd has released a new version of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” as a preview to the December 12 release of an expanded 50th anniversary edition of their era-defining album, “Wish You Were Here.”

Renowned as the two-part epic bookending the 1975 album, the new version sees the full song pieced together for the first time ever.

Newly mixed in stereo by James Guthrie, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (pts. 1-9, New Stereo Mix)” is presented as one 25 minute long epic.

The song and the story of its creation have gone down in rock n' roll folklore, known as a tribute to their childhood friend and former bandmate Syd Barrett, an original member who left the band in 1968.

In celebration of the release, actor and artist Noel Fielding has created a series of specially commissioned original paintings inspired by Syd's iconic image, spotlighting this most unique and influential of souls.

"I was pretty young when my affinity with Pink Floyd and Syd started,” says Fielding. “I remember going to the library and hiring the tape of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn when I was 12. And I just was like, 'What's this?' It blew my mind. I couldn't believe it. When I started doing stand up it was all very whimsical. I was always trying to write like I was Syd Barrett. I liked his style, I liked his walk, I liked the way he talked. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' is such a beautiful tribute to him.”

“Wish You Were Here 50” gives fans an exciting new perspective into one of Pink Floyd's most iconic and best-loved records. The 50th anniversary edition features multiple discs of rarities - at the core of this special collection are six previously unreleased alternate versions and demos presenting Pink Floyd's eighth studio album in a brand new way.

“Wish You Were Here 50” will be released in multiple formats including 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, digital and a Deluxe Box Set.
