Metallica performed their 1991 classic, “Enter Sandman”, on Mariano Rivera Day at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, and video of the appearance is available.
The Yankees held a pre-game event to honor their retiring pitcher – known as The Sandman - who has entered the field from the bullpen to the Metallica classic since 1999.
“This one's for you Mariano!,” yelled frontman James Hetfield as the band kicked into the song, with the singer and bassist Robert Trujillo sporting Yankees jerseys for the occasion. Metallica’s stage amps featured the band’s name in the classic Yankees logo font, along with the number 42 and “Sandman” visible on stage.
The Yankee Stadium appearance followed Saturday night’s concert at The Apollo Theater, where Metallica teamed with SiriusXM to celebrate the return of the Mandatory Metallica channel on the satellite radio service.
Video from the Apollo Theater show is available here.
