Metallica will play a concert in Antarctica in December as part of a promotion for Coca-Cola Zero, according to the soft drinks’ Columbian website.
To enter, fans need to collect three labels of 250ml Coca-Cola Zero bottles and mail them in for a chance to win. The contest runs from October 14 – November 9, with the Metallica concert taking place between December 2 – 15.
The event will see the group performing on Earth's southernmost continent, about 98% of which is covered by ice that averages at least 1 mile (1.6 km) in thickness.
Last month, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told a San Francisco radio station that the band has something coming up late this year that will surprise fans. "There's a very interesting thing coming our way in December . . . There's another frontier heading in Metallica's direction in December. Which, if anybody (at the band's management) even knew that I just said what I just said, they would hunt me down and silence me. But there is another frontier coming in December, which we're very excited about."
There’s been no official word from Metallica yet on the Coca-Cola Zero promotion.
In the meantime, Metallica continue to travel the world to promote their new 3D film, “Through The Never.”
The film recently scored the best opening weekend ever for a concert film at IMAX theaters, debuting on 305 screens and earning $1.67 million before expanding to 650 screens across the U.S.
The film’s companion soundtrack, "Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)", debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album chart with opening week sales of 26,000 copies.
The 2-CD set highlights performances from last year's shows at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed all performance footage featured in the film.
