INXS continue to top Aussie charts

INXS continue to top the Australian charts following the recent broadcast of a two-part miniseries on the band.

Billboard reports the new wave band’s collection, “The Very Best”, is spending its third week atop the national albums chart.

The double-platinum certified hits compilation is one of six INXS titles in the top 50 of the latest ARIA Albums Chart, ahead of "Kick" (No. 3), “Live At Wembley” (No. 17), “The Swing” (No. 34), “Listen Like Thieves” (No. 37) and “Shabooh Shoobah” (No. 46).

Last week, INXS made Australian chart history this week when they became the first homegrown act to snag the top two spots on the album charts, with “The Very Best” at No. 1 and 1987’s “Kick” landing at No. 2.

The stadium rockers have enjoyed a revival thanks to a popular two-part mini-series, “INXS: Never Tear Us Apart”, which tracked the band’s rise and the untimely passing of its charismatic lead singer, Michael Hutchence. Directed by Daina Reed, the project featured Luke Arnold as Hutchence.

INXS formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The band went on to sell more than 40 million albums worldwide before Hutchence’s death in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997.

INXS worked with a few singers before performing their final concert on November 11, 2012 at the Perth Arena.
