David Bowie Is documentary coming to US theaters

A documentary about the touring art exhibition “David Bowie Is”, which premiered at London's Victoria and Albert Museum last year, will be screened in more than 100 movie theaters in the United States on September 23rd.

“David Bowie Is Happening Now” takes the audience on a journey through the “David Bowie Is” exhibition with special guests including legendary Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, and other collaborators, to explore the stories behind some of the key objects that document Bowie’s artistic career.

The exhibition features more than 400 objects from the David Bowie Archive, including handwritten lyrics, original costumes, photography, set designs, album artwork, and rare performance material from the past five decades.

The documentary was filmed on the closing night of the V&A exhibition in London and directed by Hamish Hamilton, the BAFTA-winning Director of the Academy Awards and the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“David Bowie Is” - the exhibition itself - will open at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art on September 23 and will remain on view until January 4th.
