Joan Jett comments on 2015 Rock Hall induction

Joan Jett is sharing thoughts on her induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The former Runaways guitarist will be inducted with her backing band, The Blackhearts, at next April’s event in Cleveland; they’ll be joined by Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Ringo Starr, Lou Reed, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Bill Withers, and the “5” Royales in the Class Of 2015.

“Yeah, it's pretty amazing,” Jett tells Rolling Stone. “It's surreal. I'm sure a big smile came across my face. It's incredible. I'm very flabbergasted. It's going to take a few minutes to sink in before I see how I really feel about it.”

“I've set myself up to not expect it because it's easier to go about your life that way, just focusing on your life. If accolades come, they do and you don't have to stress out about it. I've always been hopeful because I think it's an incredible acknowledgment. I'm very proud to be with all these great musicians.”

Jett has attended previous Rock Hall ceremonies, including a performance fronting Nirvana at the 2014 event.

“It's a culmination of all you've dreamed about doing as a musician, reaching people, getting respect from other musicians,” she explains. “It's incredibly emotional and getting involved in the last year was really stunning and scary and great at the same time. It was an amazing thing to do.”

“It was so fun,” Jett says of the Nirvana experience. “How could you not do that? It was very scary to be doing that with that legacy, but as a fan and a musician, how can you say no? You just have to go with it and hope everything turns out right.”

The 30th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, December 18 at 10 a.m. EST.
