Black Sabbath guitarist joins UK reality series Guitar Star

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi will be a mentor on Guitar Star, a new UK reality competition series that focuses on guitarists.

Iommi will be joined by fellow mentors Lee Ritenour, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Milos Karadaglic for the program, which will debut on the Sky Arts channel on June 9 with host, DJ Edith Bowman.

The winner of the nine-week competition will perform on the main stage at the Latitude festival.

"I'd like somebody who plays from the soul,” says Iommi, “so I look for that really, as opposed to somebody learning every single note and getting everything perfect. I prefer it coming from the blues side and something coming from inside."

Iommi and Black Sabbath were recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Ivor Novello Awards in London.

The band are reissuing their vintage 1970s albums on heavyweight 180g vinyl in three stages, starting June 22 with their self-titled 1970 debut, along with “Paranoid” and 1971’s “Master Of Reality.”

Three more albums will be available on June 29, including 1972’s “Vol. 4”, 1973’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and 1975’s “Sabotage.”

The series wraps up on July 13 with 1976’s “Technical Ecstasy” and 1978’s “Never Say Die!”

Black Sabbath plan to launch their farewell world tour in 2016.
