Aerosmith bassist previews Donington live DVD

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton is previewing the band’s forthcoming live package, “Aerosmith Rocks Donington 2014”,which will be released on Blu Ray, DVD and Digital on September 4 via Eagle Rock.

The set features Aerosmith’s headline performance on June 15, 2014 as they closed the final night of the Download Festival in Donington Park.

Hamilton reveals the project was inspired by the success of 2013’s “Rock For The Rising Sun”, which captured the band on and off stage during a 2011 tour of Japan.

"We had a DVD we put out a few years ago and it was a big success with the fans - it came out really good," Hamilton tells The Digital Journal, "so we had our eyes open for these types of opportunities. Eagle Rock, we got together with them and said, 'Hey, we're gonna be doing some big festivals in Europe, do you want to do a DVD of one of them?' and it was a big enthusiastic yes.

“This festival at Donington, they call it Download now. It used to be called Monsters of Rock, but we always refer to it as 'Donington.' It's got a lot of history behind it and I always feel honoured to be in a band that's asked to headline that show.”

“You really feel for the crowd there,” he continues, “because you have the English weather and when we go on they've been there for three days and they've been drinking and eating and having hangovers…But dammit, they stay there, they stay through the rain, and they're still there when we go on, so it really makes you want to go and make it worth it for them.”

Hamilton says the band have been working hard on the Donington package to get it ready for its fall release.

"We decided to get a really great director, Dick Carruthers, who's done a lot of amazing rock documentaries,” explains the bassist, “and get a bunch of extra cameras and do a really nice film of the show. We've been working really hard on it, taking part in the mixing and the sequencing and the graphics - every aspect of putting this thing together. We're really proud of it and hopefully people will love it when they see it."

The Boston rockers premiered the package in US cinemas in February, ahead of their recently launched Blue Army Tour.
