Steven Tyler and Ronnie Wood made a surprise appearance at the Black Sabbath farewell show in Birmingham last weekend.
Tyler and Wood were joined by Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello, Andrew Watt, Rudy Sarzo and Travis Barker for the Tiny Bradshaw classic, “Train Kept A-Rollin'”, which Aerosmith covered on their 1974 album, “Get Your Wings.”
Wood and Barker left the stage as Chad Smith stepped in for a jam on “Walk This Way” before closing with a snippet of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.”
Tyler’s appearance was a surprise as Aerosmith announced its retirement from touring due to a vocal injury the singer suffered at the start of a farewell tour in 2023.
Billed as “Back To The Beginning”, July 5 event saw the farewell performances by both Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, where they were joined by a number of guest artists paying tribute to the influential heavy metal band.
Aerosmith guitarist and songwriter Joe Perry is set to return to the road for a series of August performances with The Joe Perry Project.
The 8-date run kicks off August 13 in Tampa, FL and wraps August 23 in Port Chester, New York, with an August 19 performance in Perry's Boston hometown.
For the North American trek – which marks the first solo shows for Perry this year – the legendary guitarist will be joined by his Aerosmith bandmates Brad Whitford (guitar) and Buck Johnson (keys), along with The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson (vocals), and Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums).
"Well...it's time to let the music do the talkin again," Perry says. "I'm really excited about the JPP line up this year!!!! Most of these guys played with me at The Roxy in L.A. at the debut event for my latest solo album [Sweetzerland Manifesto] in January 2018. They're all busy as hell but thankfully they're able to carve out some time for this run. And I'm not only lucky enough to have Brad Whitford onstage with me but Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes! [who sang 'Fortunate One' on Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII], Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz from STP!!! and Buck Johnson who plays keys and sings with Aerosmith, the Hollywood Vampires, and is also a solo artist in his own right.
“The set list is gonna include my fav JPP cuts, STP, Black Crowes, and with Brad we'll be hitting the Aero hits and some deep cuts and then ya never know!!!! Gonna be a BLAST, and if you've ever been to one of my shows you know the words GARAGE BAND on STEROIDS come to mind! See you there!!!!"

Aerosmith ended 2023 in limbo after it postponed its Peace Out farewell tour when Steven Tyler sustained significant vocal cord damage after just three shows last fall.
“To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,” began an announcement by Aerosmith at the time.
A month before the tour was set to resume, Aerosmith made global headlines when it announced its retirement from touring as Tyler could not continue performing due to the extent of his injuries.
“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing,” said the band on August 2. “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” began the official statement on August 2.
With worldwide sales of more than 150 million records, Aerosmith – who formed in Boston, MA in 1970 – were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001.
Aerosmith has announced its retirement from touring due to a vocal injury Steven Tyler suffered at the start of a farewell tour last fall.
The iconic Boston band completed just three shows of the Peace Out farewell tour before the singer experienced the issue, which the band confirmed at the time was a mixture of damaged vocal cords and a fractured larynx that would require extensive medical treatment.
As a result – with the rescheduled tour dates set to start next month – the band regrouped to review Tyler’s condition and assess its ability to tour moving forward.
“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” shared Aerosmith in its announcement. “It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.
“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage.
“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time,” added the group. “Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

The current UK and European leg will wrap up at Spain’s Stone & Music Festival on May 9, after which The Black Crowes will play a series of US festivals before joining Aerosmith as the Boston band resumes its Peace Out farewell tour in September; the series went on hiatus after Tyler sustained vocal cord damage and a fractured larynx during one of the first few shows of the trek last fall.

Aerosmith’s 1973 classic, “Dream On”, has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
“‘Dream On’ has now been streamed over 1 BILLION times on Spotify,” shared the band on social media. “THANK YOU #BlueArmy”
The track from the group’s self-titled debut album was a huge hit on their hometown of Boston, MA upon its original release while it failed to garner huge traction nationwide; a reissue two years later landed in the US Top 10 on its way to becoming one of the band’s signature songs.

“As a result, all the currently scheduled Peace Out shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is sharing video of a 2018 live performance of his new single, “Fortunate One” – featuring Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes – following the song’s official release earlier this week.
The tune is the lead track from Perry’s forthcoming album, “Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII”, which delivers six new songs and alternate vocal appearances and mixes from his 2018 album, “Sweetzerland Manifesto.”
Billed as “Joe Perry & Friends”, the footage was shot during a show at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, CA that doubled as a release party for Perry’s then-new album, where he was joined by an all-star band that included Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, Slash, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Johnny Depp, Gary Cherone of Extreme, Terry Reid, David Johansen, Buck Johnson, and David Goodstein.
Perry wrote and recorded the bulk of the material for both albums at the Los Angeles home of his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Depp back in 2017.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is streaming “Fortunate One” as the lead single to his forthcoming album, “Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII.”
Co-written by Joe’s sons Tony and Roman, the track features vocals by Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes and bass by Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots.
Due May 26, the 10-song project delivers six new songs and alternate vocal appearances and mixes from Perry’s 2018 album, “Sweetzerland Manifesto.”
“I’m really excited to get this song out,” says Perry about “Fortunate One.”“It hadn’t been written when the first version of ‘Sweetzerland Manifesto’ was released. Tony and I wrote it together, and then my old friend Chris Robinson sang on it and knocked it outta the park! It doesn’t get better than that!! Really proud of this track.”
Also appearing on the record are Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, Extreme’s Gary Cherone, David Johansen and UK vocalist Terry Reid.
"Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII" serves as a companion to the original 2018 album, which saw Perry write and record the bulk of the material for both versions at the Los Angeles home of his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Johnny Depp back in 2017.
"We had so many songs and with everything going on with the Vampires, Aerosmith, COVID, not touring and touring, this music kept riding along for me," explains Perry. "It was like the engine of a train that wasn't going to stop. I'd wanted to put these songs out, and the idea of adding them to a vinyl release or Deluxe Version turned into doing MKII. I tend to think in terms of albums. The first one had a vibe, and MKII is a little more rocked out. I almost prefer it. It's one of those records I can play from front to back live."
“Fortunate One” arrives just days before The Joe Perry Project launch a brief spring US tour in Mashantucket, CT on April 15.

Rock News Artist Of The Year No. 10 – AEROSMITH
Aerosmith began 2022 by cancelling their 2022 European tour as the pandemic continued to affect the live music industry around the world; it was originally set for 2020 and rescheduled twice before the band shut it down.
In March, the group announced dates for their ongoing “Deuces Are Wild” residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas, NV, with 24 shows set for this year, including scattered dates running from June to December.
On the heels of the news came word that drummer Joey Kramer would sit out the series this year “so he can focus his full attention on his family during these uncertain times," the band said in a statement, while revealing that Kramer’s tech, John Douglas, would step in for the shows.
Aerosmith released a vintage live package, “Aerosmith 1971 – The Road Starts Hear”, in April; first issued in a sold-out, limited edition run on vinyl and cassette as a 2021 Record Store Day exclusive, the recently discovered recording captures the Boston rockers in an early rehearsal setting, with five of the seven songs going on to appear on their 1973 self-titled debut.
Just weeks before the Las Vegas residency was scheduled to start, dates in June and July were cancelled as Aerosmith announced that Steven Tyler relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program while experiencing issues following recent foot surgery.
This past week, the band was forced to cancel a pair of residency dates as Tyler continues to recover from an undisclosed illness; Aerosmith are scheduled to wrap the “Deuces Are Wild" series on December 11.
