Metallica: Lars Ulrich to host Front Row event at University Of California

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich will host a Front Row event at University Of California on March 2.

"We’ve always been proud of our Bay Area roots,” says Metallica, “so when the University of California in Berkeley came to us with a very unique opportunity to celebrate our hometown, we jumped on it.

“On Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm at Zellerbach Hall on the UC Berkeley campus, Lars will kick off the very first Front Row in conjunction with the Student Curators of Cal Performances.

“Lars will bring together some of his most inspiring friends and colleagues from the worlds of music, design, film and tech to explore why many of the world’s creative leaders and thinkers choose the Bay Area as their home.”

Joining Lars will be bandmate James Hetfield, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Chairman and CEO, Salesforce Marc Benioff, bassist Les Claypool, actor and activist Peter Coyote, filmmaker Jonathan Parker (Untitled, Bartleby, The Californians, The Architect), Co-founder of Turner Duckworth, designer David Turner (“Death Magnetic”, “Lulu” and “Through The Never” album packages), and Lars’ father Torben Ulrich, who at 87 is still active in music, film and poetry.

Tickets went on sale February 16th for only $5.00. Seating is general admission and tickets will be sold to current UC Berkeley students only, one ticket per student available in person at Zellerbach Hall, online at calperformances.org/front-row and over the phone by calling 510-642-9988.

Ulrich and Metallica played their first show of 2016 with a headlining performance at a Super Bowl 50 eve concert at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA on February 6.

CBS Radio’s “The Night Before” annual event saw the band joined by special guests Cage The Elephant ahead of the big game between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA on Sunday, February 7, which was won by the Broncos.

Metallica have been in the studio working on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic”, and shared a brief clip of some new music over the Christmas holidays.
