Metallica guitarist performs with Elton John in Las Vegas



Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett joined Elton John in Las Vegas on April 30 for a performance of his 1973 classic, “Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.”

The special appearance took place on the final night of John’s spring residency of “The Million Dollar Piano” show at at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

"It was an honor and extreme privilege to share the stage with such a legend. Thanks, Elton John!,” posted Hammett on his social media sites. “Davey Johnstone is a great guitarist and it was an honor to play with him. I had first seen him play during Alice Cooper's Madhouse Rock Tour in 1979 and he kicked major ass!!!”

“Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting” was the lead single from John’s double album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” The tune reached No. 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while the album hit No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of 8 million copies in the States and more than 20 million worldwide.

Hammett and Metallica recently hosted a 2016 Record Store Day performance at Rasputin Music in Berkeley, CA.

The band continue working in the studio with producer Greg Fidelman on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”
