Jimmy Page thanks fans for support throughout Stairway To Heaven trial

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is thanking fans for their outpouring of support throughout the recent "Stairway To Heaven" copyright infringement trial.

Last month, a Los Angeles federal court jury cleared defendants Page and Robert Plant of any wrongdoing in the creation of their 1971 signature song against a claim by Michael Skidmore on behalf of the estate and Trust of Spirit guitarist Randy California (Wolfe) that the acoustic introduction to “Stairway” was lifted from the group’s 1968 instrumental, “Taurus.”

“A few weeks have past since the judgement of the Stairway to Heaven case in Los Angeles, with the jury reaching a unanimous decision in a remarkably short time,” said Page via a statement on Facebook. “Throughout the lengthy journey to that verdict, and even more recently, I have received and been aware of the overwhelming wave of support, encouragement, and congratulations that has been deeply moving.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank all those who contributed such a positive energy to me.”

Page’s remarks surfaced over the weekend as a lawyer representing Skidmore filed an appeal to the verdict in the case.

“Please take notice that Plaintiff Michael Skidmore, Trustee for the Randy Craig Wolfe Trust, hereby appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from the final judgment entered on June 23, 2016, as well as any and all interlocutory rulings, decisions, and orders that gave rise to the judgment and are merged therein,” the notice of appeal read.

A date for the appeal to be heard has yet to be announced.

“Stairway To Heaven” appeared on the UK band’s 1971 album, “Led Zeppelin IV.”

One of the best-selling albums in music history, the project went on to sell more than 37 million copies worldwide, including 23 million in the US alone.
