Megadeth cancel shows after David Ellefson breaks foot

Megadeth have cancelled a pair of European dates after bassist David Ellefson broke his foot backstage before a festival show in Hungary on July 15.

As part of a world tour in support of “Dystopia”, the band were scheduled to perform at the Harley Days festival in Prov, Slovakia on July 16, and a Masters Of Rock event in Vizovice, Czech Republic on July 17.

"Our bass player's received a severe break to his foot,” said leader Dave Mustaine in a video message. “I'm very, very sorry to tell you this. But we will make it up to you next summer. Please hang in there and stay metal."

Mustaine broke the news of Ellefson’s accident via Periscope on Friday, alerting fans to the injury while the group were, at the time, still planning to perform at the Rockmaraton festival in Dunaújváros, Hungary while the bassist was being assessed by medical personnel.

After Elleson returned from hospital with his foot in a cast, Mustaine went on stage at Rockmaraton to announce the injury and that the band would not be performing.

It remains unknown at this time how, or if, Ellefson’s injury will affect future shows.

Megadeth will have a two-week break before launching a Latin American tour in Quito, Ecuador on July 30.
