Metallica single Hardwired debuts on US charts

Metallica’s thrashing new single, “Hardwired”, has made its debut on the US charts following its release on August 18.

Billboard reports the tune enters the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart at No. 2 and at No. 18 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart after less than three days of airplay.

“Hardwired” becomes Metallica’s 32nd charting song on Mainstream Rock Songs, stretching back to the debut of “One” in the spring of 1989.

The tune is the first preview of the Bay Area band’s forthcoming album, “Hardwired…To Self Destruct.”

Due November 18, the two-disc set was produced by Greg Fidelman, guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich.

“The mission statement,” says Ulrich to his fellow bandmates and producers in a newly-issued behind the scenes video from the song’s writing and recording sessions, “is to write an opening song for this next record that is super-thrashy and fast and aggro.”

Metallica performed the live debut of “Hardwired” at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN on August 20.
