Ghost make US chart history with Popestar EP

Swedish rockers Ghost have made US chart history with their newly-released EP, “Popestar.”

Billboard reports the project sold 21,000 copies in its opening week to become the first EP to land at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums in the chart's 10-year history.

Led by the lone original track and lead single “Square Hammer”, the package includes covers of songs originally recorded by Eurythmics, Echo & The Bunnymen, Simian Mobile Disco and Imperiet.

“Popestar” also starts as Ghost's second No. 1 on the Hard Rock Albums chart, following 2013’s “Infestissumam.”

"Square Hammer" enters multiple Billboard charts, including Hard Rock Digital Song Sales at No, 7 (3,000 downloads sold), where it's Ghost's first entry. The track also ranks at No. 33 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, No. 36 on Rock Digital Song Sales and No. 41 on Hot Rock Songs.

Ghost are currently playing dates on the Popestar North American tour, which kicked off in Rochester, NY on September 16.
