U2 announce 30th anniversary reissues of The Joshua Tree

U2 will release a series of 30th anniversary reissues of “The Joshua Tree” on June 2.

Issued across multiple formats and packages – including standard cd, vinyl and digital, 2CD Deluxe, and CD and Vinyl Super Deluxe Box Sets with digital download cards – the revamped editions comes complete with outtakes, b-sides, a bunch of 2017 remixes by Daniel Lanois, St Francis Hotel, Jacknife Lee, Steve Lillywhite and Flood, and a 1987 live recording of The Joshua Tree Tour from New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The 30th anniversary editions also feature an 84-page hardback book of unseen personal photography shot by The Edge during the original Mojave Desert photo session in 1986.

"When I see the people we were back then,” writes Edge, in his introduction. "I see a bunch of pilgrims on a journey towards some kind of creative home. I think that really does capture the spirit of the band at that time.”

U2’s fifth album, “The Joshua Tree” spawned three hit singles (“With Or Without You”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”) on its way to selling more than 25 million copies worldwide, including 10 million in the U.S. alone.

The reissues arrive in sync with the launch of a stadium tour of North America that will see the Irish rockers perform the 1987 album in its entirety for the first time.

A two-month run across North America will begin in Vancouver, BC on May 12 and include U2’s first ever U.S. festival headline appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in June. Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and One Republic will open select dates.
