AC/DC: Brian Johnson shares video message during virtual Bonfest

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson delivered a video message during a May 2 virtual edition of Bonfest, the annual event held in Kirriemuir, Scotland that sees rock fans from around the world gather in the former home town of late vocalist Bon Scott to celebrate his life and music.

The traditional three-day event was replaced by a 6-hour livestream tribute after the global pandemic shut down plans for a weekend of live music and events.

According to The Courier, Johnson shared a message from his home in Florida, saying: “Hey everybody. I know you're all disappointed that the Bonfest is not going to be on this year, but as you know this virus has got everything pretty screwed up. But, I'm sure it will be back next year bigger and better and we can all go and celebrate our favourite singer's life.

“I've got nothing much to say except the fact that I'm as bored as all you are, I just want to get out there. Keep tight, stay safe and we'll see you all again. As Bon would have said, 'Ride on', we'll see you then."

Scott passed away after a night of heavy drinking in London in early 1980 at the age of 33; AC/DC brought in former Geordie singer Johnson to handle lead vocals and the group issued the best-selling hard rock album of all time, “Back In Black”, just five months later.

Bonfest organizer John Crawford of DD8 Music explained how Johnson became involved in the 2020 edition.

“I managed to get in contact with Brian and we have spoken several times over the last two weeks,” he says. “He’s a down to earth, genuine man and an incredible storyteller. We got talking about Bonfest, which he already knew about and he agreed to do the video clip so I can’t thank him enough for his help and time.

“It was massive effort from DD8 Music in conjunction with Shane Wallace from Wallace Media to put this all together,
” he added. “The fans played a massive part with the 53 excellent video clips sent in and then either included in the live stream or played on social media during the day.”
