Alice Cooper streams cover of Velvet Underground classic

Alice Cooper is streaming a cover of The Velvet Underground’s 1970 classic, “Rock & Roll”, as the first preview to his forthcoming album, “Detroit Stories.”

The rocker slows down and adds his hard rock touch to the updated version of the track, which appeared on the New York band’s fourth album, “Loaded.”

Joining Cooper on the song are two former members of Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels – guitarist Steve Hunter and drummer Johnny Bee – as well as Jazzanova bassist Paul Randolph and blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

“Nothing could be more fitting today than to release my new single,” says Cooper. “Very excited to share this with you all.”

Due February 26, 2021, “Detroit Stories” pays homage to the shock-rocker’s hometown and the city that launched the original Alice Cooper group.

Cooper worked a number of local musicians on the project alongside producer Bob Ezrin.
