Queen guitarist Brian May recovering from eye surgery

Queen guitarist Brian May is recovering from eye surgery.

The rocker shared the news on social media on Thursday, just prior to, and following, the procedure.

"One Vision! All prepped and waiting ... for a little bit of eye surgery,” wrote May on Instagram. “I'm in good hands. No need to worry. All in a day's work ... it should really improve my focus - AND my stereoscopic vision. It’s a Piece o’ Cake ... eeek !

"And .... all done!!,”
he added, alongside an image of him outfitted with a bandage over his left eye. “I really didn't feel a thing. It was all done with local anaesthetic and a tiny bit of sedation - So I was conscious throughout the whole thing - and fascinated by this amazing procedure. Only about 20 mins.

"The patch stays on until tomorrow morning. It's an iPatch! So obviously I'll soon have to take it off and put it back on again. Big thanks to my eye surgeon the brilliant Robin Hamilton, and my anaesthetist Con, and all the lovely folks at the London Clinic who have taken care of me so kindly."

May thanked fans for their outpouring of support on Friday, while explaining the reason behind the surgery.

“Basically, I had a cataract operation even though I don’t have a cataract,” he said. “So, they replaced the lens because my focus was so out; I had a Lazik some years ago, but it drifted a long ways out .. I could focus on nothing in the left eye. Now, already, I can see pretty much perfectly, infinity, through a slight haze. So, I’m great … thank you so much for caring.”

Earlier this spring, Queen and Adam Lambert postponed the UK and European legs of their Rhapsody World Tour for a second time due to the pandemic.

Originally planned for May of 2020, the dates were first moved to spring of this year but with the global health crisis still far from resolved, the band have moved them to 2022. See also:
