Billy Idol pulls out of Journey tour due to health issue

Billy Idol has pulled out of an upcoming North American tour with Journey due to an ongoing health issue.

Idol was originally scheduled to open the first leg of Journey’s Freedom Tour, with Toto on board for the second leg; due to his Idol’s cancellation, Toto will now join Journey for the full series, which opens February 22 in Pittsburgh, PA.

“I am absolutely gutted,’ explains Idol on social media. “I haven’t felt like myself since mid-December with a sinus infection that won’t respond to medication. It has worsened to the point where I have no choice but to have a procedure which I expect will put me on a path to recovery soon.

“The last thing I ever want to do is cancel shows and I am absolutely gutted that I won’t be able to perform the upcoming dates with Journey as planned. I wish Journey only the best on their tour and give thanks to Toto for stepping in for me.”

“The Freedom Tour 2022 is kicking off soon and we are excited that our friends Toto will be now out on the road with us for the whole tour,” says Journey. “And we’re adding two new shows in Hershey & Manchester! Presale for the added dates starts Friday at 10am local. Use code FREEDOM for exclusive access to tickets before the general public.”

General public tickets for the two new concert dates will go on sale Monday, February 7 at 10:00 am EST.

A pair of Canadian shows in the series – Quebec City (March 5) and Toronto (March 7) have been postponed and will be rescheduled.

Journey were recently named the No. 5 Rock News Artist Of The Year as part of the 2021 hennemusic Rock News Awards. Journey
