The Rolling Stones played a surprise club show in Los Angeles Saturday night, marking the first show of their 2013 50 & Counting North American tour.

Tickets for the club show went on sale Saturday afternoon at the El Ray Theatre for just $20 each; they were distributed via a lottery for the 2,000 fans who arrived hoping to get one of the rare seats.

Before 700 fans at the Echoplex in Echo Park, Los Angeles, the Stones opened with “You Got Me Rocking,” one of 14 songs performed in a set that included a guest appearance by former bandmate Mick Taylor.

The Stones will launch their arena tour at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday May 3; the original May 2 show was moved due to the NBA playoff schedule. Tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled date.

The tour will see the Stones play 17 shows across North America, wrapping up June 21 in Philadelphia.
