Slash will jam with the students at the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Saturday, September 28.
The school provides music education for Boys & Girls Club kids that focuses on Rock & Roll instruments.
Brennan Rock & Roll Academy founder and Dollar Loan Center CEO Chuck Brennan first met Slash at Rockfest in Cadott, Wisconsin, where the guitarist opened for KISS. Earlier that day, KISS made a stop by the Academy for a dedication of the KISS rehearsal rooms.
Brennan and Slash hit it off from the get go and started discussing the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy and the fact that it’s the first-ever free music program for the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs. “Slash was so impressed that he immediately wanted to get involved and show his support to the academy and the kids,” Brennan said. “Slash will be the first celebrity rock star to watch the kids perform and see their concert.”
When Slash found out that one of the student bands had chosen the Guns N’ Roses version of the Bob Dylan classic, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”, he insisted that he get up and jam with the kids.
“Can you even begin to comprehend how cool it’s going to be for these kids who just learned how to play and are performing their first little concert in front of their peers to play with Slash?” added Brennan.
The student concert at the academy will feature three student bands that have been learning how to play instruments and rehearsing since the academy opened in April. The concert is NOT open to the public, which makes it even more special for the children.
After the show, Slash will meet the students and offer words of encouragement. “This is a HUGE deal for not only the students and academy but also the community. This music program has taken on a life of its own around the country - having Slash brings it to the next level for sure,” said Brennan.
