Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron has announced his departure from the Seattle band.
“After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam,” shared Cameron in a statement. “Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter. I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It’s been an incredible journey. More to follow. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Peace and Love, Matt Cameron.”
“From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer,” said Pearl Jam in a separate statement. “He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings. It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we wish him well always. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music. We love you Matt.”
Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998 and first appeared on the group’s sixth studio album, 2000’s “Binaural”; upon his arrival, he was the fifth drummer in the band’s history following Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons.
Pearl Jam wrapped up its year-long “Dark Matter” tour – in support of the 2024 album of the same name – this spring; Cameron’s final show with the group was a May 18 performance at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Seattle rockers will open the trek with two shows in Hollywood, FL in late April, with support acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

Pearl Jam has been nominated for three 2025 Grammys for music from its latest album, “Dark Matter.”
The record’s title track will compete in two categories – Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song (a songwriters’ honor) – while the full project is in the running for Best Rock Album.
Produced by Andrew Watt, the set marks the band’s first record since 2020’s “Gigaton.”
In 2023, the members of Pearl Jam retreated to Shangri-La Studios in Malibu where they plugged in and wrote and shaped new material by facing one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level; in a burst of inspiration, “Dark Matter” was born in just three weeks.
“I’m getting chills, because I have good memories,” recalled Eddie Vedder when announcing the record. “We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
Pearl Jam played two shows in New Zealand this past week and will wrap up the Dark Matter world tour in Australia before the end of the month.
The 2025 Grammy Awards, officially known as the 67th Grammy Awards, will take place live at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2, broadcasting live on the CBS Television Network and streaming live and on demand on Paramount+.

Pearl Jam is streaming video of a performance of the “Dark Matter” single, “Wreckage”, from a May 16 show in Las Vegas, NV.
The first of two nights at the city’s MGM Grand Garden Arena saw the iconic band deliver a 26-song set that mixed eight tracks from the latest album alongside classic tracks from throughout its career.
The "Wreckage" video features some of the band's unique tour visuals that were created by famed creative and fellow Seattle native, Rob Sheridan. The visual concept was a first for the band who generally toured with a more general, stripped back production.
"Pearl Jam isn't a bright, cold LED screen; it's a warm, incandescent light,” Sheridan told the Seattle Times. “We talked about, 'What if we did this with a really analog feel?' What if we used a projection screen, and some ways to help bring the visuals into the space with the band but not be fighting for attention with what is one of the greatest live bands, in terms of musical performances, of our generation."
Pearl Jam's 7th studio album, “Dark Matter” – which recently crossed 100 Million streams – debuted Top 5 on the US Billboard 200 and also scored No. 1 on five Billboard charts simultaneously - Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Top Hard Rock.
With their latest release, the band has also tied for most No. 1 albums in Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart history with eight.
Following its recent run of European dates, Pearl Jam will resume the 2024 tour in Missoula, MT on August 22.
Pearl Jam has cancelled a pair of upcoming shows in Berlin, Germany as the band continues to deal with health issues on the road.
After recently cancelling a June 29 event at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium due to illness, the group has shared an update on social media.
“We are sorry to share that the Pearl Jam concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd in Berlin are cancelled. Despite everyone’s best efforts, the band has yet to make a full recovery,”posted the group. “The impacts of this decision are not lost on us. We feel deeply that so many people spend their time, money, and emotional energy to get tickets and then to come see the band and it is heart wrenching to have to disappoint you. We also appreciate the many people whose hard work goes into making these shows happen.
“Please trust we never take these decisions lightly and try to do everything possible to show up for you all. We wish a reschedule had been possible for this tour leg and hope to come back to Berlin soon. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.

“That one probably has the biggest build for me personally, in terms of hearing it at first and thinking, it's kind of an Ed song,” says guitarist Stone Gossard. “I wasn't quite aware of its potency until later. Andrew encouraged me to play this little harmonic, acoustic part almost like a Cure melody. I've been playing along with the song to relearn it and I'm really looking forward to playing it live. It's a really powerful lyric and I think we did a really great job of taking something and really pushing it to its limit."
“['Wreckage'] started with the riff and everyone kind of formulating sections together,” adds Watts. “That song just came to Ed right away. Within the first couple takes before the music was even right, his vocals were right. His melodies and words are so strong in that song. Once the initial spark was there and there were a few sections, it was just really about following him.”

Due April 19, the band has released the title track as the first preview to the project, which was recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu and produced by Andrew Watt.
The global tour, hitting nine countries and 25 cities, will kick off in Vancouver, BC with two shows in early May; the first month delivers events in North America before shifting to the UK and Europe, after which they’ll return to the US in early fall and follow that with the group's long-awaited ten-year return to New Zealand and Australia this November.
Special guests Deep Sea Diver (North America Leg 1), Glen Hansard (North America Leg 2), The Murder Capital (UK/EU), Richard Ashcroft (Dublin and London) and Pixies (Australia and New Zealand) will serve as support for these dates.

Pearl Jam has postponed a September 10 show in Indianapolis, IN as part of their current North American tour.
“Pearl Jam's concert at Ruoff Music Center tonight (Sunday, September 10) has been postponed due to illness,” says the group in a statement. “The band is deeply sorry, and thinking about all those who travel to shows, as well as the great crowd in Indy. It’s obviously serious, and we wish there was another way around it. Again we apologize, and thanks so much for your understanding. It’s not easy...
“Tickets will be honored for a future, rescheduled date. Ticket holders who cannot make the new show will be eligible for a refund.”
While no further details on the postponement issue were revealed, the Seattle outfit is planning to move forward with more shows in the week ahead.
“The upcoming concerts in Ft. Worth (September 13 & 15) and Austin (September 18 & 19) are currently scheduled as planned,” added the band.
While Pearl Jam’s latest release is 2020’s “Gigaton”, the group is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of its 1998 album, “Yield.”

The three-week series will open with a pair of shows in St. Paul, MN starting in late August, and include two nights in Chicago, IL; a stop in Indianapolis, IN and two dates in Fort Worth, TX before wrapping up with a two shows in Austin, TX in mid-September.
Special guests Inhaler will open the Chicago, Indianapolis and Austin shows; support for the St. Paul and Fort Worth dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
