Van Halen: no plans confirmed for 2011, says rep

Some things in life are fairly predictable.

Take Van Halen’s inability to keep information leaks from happening, for example.

Take Van Halen’s spokespeople dismissing said leaks as "rumours" and “untrue.”

Both have happened again, this week, in the wake of Melodicrock’s story, on Tuesday, regarding all kinds of details about what’s happening in the VH camp, according to unnamed sources.

See Van Halen: new album, 2011 tour update for details.

On Thursday, Melodicrock’s Andrew McNeice posted a status update on things:

“Earlier today I was contacted by the office of Larry Solters – spokesman for Van Halen - asking me to give him a call. I did so and was asked to pass on clarification of my Van Halen news item earlier this week. It seems there was some surprise in the VH camp following my news and the official word is that…"none of it was true."

Yep…incredibly, the official word is that there is "no tour on the books" right now and "no new album on the books."

Mr. Solters did concede that the guys hung out together "working on stuff," but as of right now – no album, no tour in 2011. He kindly added that I'd be the first to know when there was news.

That's all I have to add right now. Safe to say that this rebuke has not put me off digging deeper into this and I'll report back when possible. I'll leave it up to you Van Halen fans to choose what to believe!”

As I mentioned in my post on this, Andrew at Melodicrock has an impressive track record in breaking VH news, which is usually denied by VH reps soon after he breaks it, and then revealed to be accurate, sometime later.

The last time this situation happened was back in June, when the site broke news about a new VH album – leading to a response from VH spokesperson Janie Van Halen (Eddie’s wife). "What is going around is exactly that, rumours. I don't have any updates at this time," she said.

What are we to make, then, of David Lee Roth’s comments to a fan, during a chance encounter, at the 145th Scottish Gathering And Games in Pleasanton, California, back in September?

“I asked him if he was still with VH and if they were doing anything more,” fan Doug Lyle told the Van Halen News Desk. “He gave me a knowing smile and said, “You’ll be hearing from us in the next 7-8 months”. He seemed very sincere… almost like it was a promise.”

And what of Australia’s local newspaper, the Herald Sun’s report on Sunday (referenced in the recent Melodicrock story), where they stated, “Van Halen and frontman David Lee Roth are close to confirming a visit next year.”

“A visit.”

Vacation, perhaps?

Stay tuned…
